Community

We’re Focused on What Matters Most Right Now in Wilmington

Our primary focus is supporting issues that affect the population of the Cape Fear Region every day and require immediate action. Most recently, this has included supporting survivors of human trafficking, providing meals for children living in Wilmington’s food deserts, and working with Plastic Ocean Project. In addition to these direct-impact projects, JLWNC provides financial support to NourishNC and other organizations leading the charge toward social change in our community.

Our goal is to help Wilmington women develop civic leadership skills through the work they do with the League, then put those talents to work in the community where it is needed. Our community impact efforts give women opportunities to grow, while positively impacting the communities where we live and work.

We’re Transforming Wilmington Communities by Challenging the Status Quo

No matter what we’re currently focusing on, the Junior League of Wilmington’s work centers around improving our local community through effective action and leadership. We are challenging our members to identify the most pressing needs they see in our community every day and to bring proposals showing how we can make a direct impact on those issues. So far, these proposals include plans to address the needs of unsheltered persons, support hospice patients and their families, provide for those who experience menstrual inequity, and education on the dangers of plastic in our ocean. Each year, we provide related educational programs for our members and the public in addition to providing financial support and volunteers to local organizations working toward the same goal. We believe that, combined with the efforts of others, these impactful actions have the power to create new leaders and bolster our community at every corner.
