A message from the Board of Directors

Sunday, May 31

Description

The Junior League of Wilmington, NC believes in a safe and equitable community. For our community to thrive, all within it must be safe and fairly governed. The murder of George Floyd and the protests in response to it highlight what we already know – we have a long way to go for that equity to exist in our country and city, and before every member of our community feels safe.

The Junior League of Wilmington, NC believes in the power of education. To do the work that is needed to make Wilmington and America safe and equal, we must educate ourselves on the past, the systems currently in place that foster inequity, and our place in both.

The Junior League of Wilmington, NC believes in the power of collective action. History has taught us that the most powerful social change comes from working together with others in our community. We are committed to being a part of movements making that positive change.

Finally, the Junior League of Wilmington, NC denounces racism and violence against Black Americans of any kind, and believes that each of us must adopt a strongly antiracist position to move forward. We must identify racism wherever it exists and bring it to light, even when that racism lives in systems or institutions from which we benefit. Silence is not an option.

 We are stronger together.
